After spending hours and hours narrowing it down, you’ve finally finished your wedding guest list. If you’ve accomplished this tremendously difficult step in the wedding-planning process, then take a moment to give yourself a pat on the back.

Now, take a moment to realize that the work isn’t over yet.

Unfortunately, to some, deciding the seating arrangement for your guest can be just as difficult as making the guest list itself. If you need a little help, here are some different ways to seat guests at your wedding.

Sitting the Couple of Honor

When you’re deciding where to sit yourself and your soon-to-be spouse, you have a couple of options to consider, including:

  1. Sweetheart table

Your first option is to have a special table that is only for you and your love. This can be a great option if you want a space to take a break from socializing with all of your guests.

  2. Wedding party table

If you’d like some more friendly faces at your table, you can have a wedding party table instead. As the name suggests, this is one big table to fit your entire wedding party that usually faces the rest of the wedding guests.

  3. No assigned table

You can even not have an assigned table for the newly married couple. If you have a few extra seats available, you may want to just leave an extra seat or two at every table so that you can table hop throughout the night and socialize with different guests.

Sitting Family Guests at Your Wedding

When sitting family members, these options are commonly considered.

  1. Family table

One option is to sit all family members at one large table. Typically, one spouse’s family will be on one end of the table, and the other spouse’s family will be on the other end.

  2. Separate tables for each family

You can also divide family tables into groups based on which spouse the family members belong to.

  3. Mix-and-match tables

Your wedding  day is about uniting your two families, so do just that by seating members from both sides of your respective families together at the same tables. For example, you can have a “grandparents table,” or an “uncles and aunts table” to really mix things up and get your family members mingling.

Sitting Friend Guests at Your Wedding

Friends can sometimes be the easiest to sit and can sometimes be the hardest. Like family, you can have friend tables based on which spouse they know, or you can have tables for friends who are single versus couples. Either way, just try to avoid sitting anyone at a table full of strangers.
